CoC - Cthulhu

Been waiting for ever to get through my commissions, have a bit of a break and get to the game concept art I'm suppose to be working on. As Call of Cthulhu is now under free domain, the designer/programmer I'm working with on this project wanted to do a quirky, competetive game based after a Polish board game (also under free domain). I've already done most of 3D work for it, but the 2D icons and character concepts I've yet to complete. To keep it simple, I was given a list of mythos characters to choose from, and told to go nuts any way I felt, just don't make them really freaky. More or less what I did was dA search against their names, and figured out who was popular enough to use. Of the Great Old Ones I picked: Cthulhu (duh!), Hastur, Zoth-Ommog, Ithaqua, Eihort, Yig, Atlach-Nacha, and Tsathoggua. This one is the famous Cthulhu.

Cthulhu is the only one of the set that most people can recognize without knowing a piece of Lovecraftian fiction. He's Mr. Squid Face, Batman thing. Interpretations vary, and for mine I went for the very distinct squid-shaped head and the prettiest blue eyes this side of R'lyeh.

Sunset, rising out of the water. Okay, you know a girl drew this version of Cthulhu when... In contrast to all the other people who play with the mythos' creatures (mostly guys), my stuff still looks girly in comparison. Simply put, look at all the freaking color! I know the Call of Cthulhu stuff is suppose to be dark and ominous, but I like the idea of backlighting, and how much it sillhouettes his great tentacleness. Also this was a good color scheme, and who else has done an image of Cthulhu like this? Likely no one.

Anyway, set is done. Might compile them all into wallpapers and posters and such.
