January 29th, 1992 Skies above Vancouver A young air traffic controller was monitoring flights coming and going from Vancouver International Airport. Today was especially rough, as the Canadian Royal Weather Station reported a massive storm forming across all of British Columbia. According to all accounts, the storm would be the most powerful since the Great Vancouverite Storm of 1909. The Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, David See-chai Lam, declared a state of emergency, advising all civilians to seek higher ground in the event of severe flooding, and Vancouver was placed on high alert. Despite the state of emergency, Vancouver International was ordered to continue operations if the city needed to be evacuated. As is customary, flights into and out of Vancouver did the same.
